Match Report: AC Moose vs Cosmos - Cup Game
In a dramatic cup tie, AC Moose came from behind to secure a 3-1 victory over a long-ball heavy Cosmos side. The game started with a blow when Cosmos took a 1-0 lead in the first half after a goalkeeping mishap. Reece LEGGETT, our keeper, suffered a nasty cut to the forehead during the build-up and had to be rushed to the hospital. With no substitute keeper available, captain CHARLIE DANIELS took on the gloves FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 15 YEARS—and put in the best performance SCOTT JOHNSON HAS EVER SEEN IN Moose shirt between the posts.
MOOSE EQUALISED JUST BEFORE HALF TIME WHEN SAM JONES DECIDED TO TURN INTO THE WELSH TRENT ALEXANDER ARNOLD AS HE WHIPPED A CROSS INTO THE BOX FROM THE HALF WAY LINE FOR ELLIS MCDONALD TO FINISH FIRST TIME.
The second half was all AC Moose. Ellis, using his blistering pace, netted AGAIN to turn the game on its head. His runs behind the Cosmos defense were relentless, leaving them chasing shadows. Then, in the dying stages, Scott JOHNSON WHO EARLIER IN THE GAME WAS PHOTOGRAPHED DOING HIS BEST SALMON IMPRESSEION, SWAM UPSTREAM AND pounced on a loose cross to bury the third goal and put the match to bed. LOTS OF CALLS THAT SCOTT HANDBALLED IT IN THE BUILD UP HOWEVER
Cosmos offered little more than a basic long-ball approach, and truthfully, we could’ve been out of sight, with chances galore. Alex VAN EESTEREN ENDED THE GAME BY GETTING A YELLOW CARD FOR KICKING THE BALL AWAY DECLAN RICE STYLE AND Alex Taylor missed A 0.99 xG sitter WHICH summed up what could have easily been a 7-1 demolition. Nonetheless, a hard-fought win, and we march on in the cup!
